Furniture Measuring Guide

Choose the Perfect Fit for Your Space

Finding the perfect piece of furniture isn’t just about style—it’s about making sure it fits beautifully into your space. Follow these simple steps to measure up and avoid any delivery day stress.

📏 Step 1: Measure Your Room

  • Grab a tape measure and note down the length and width of your space.
  • Don’t forget to account for radiators, plug sockets, alcoves, skirting boards, and fireplaces—these can affect placement.
  • Struggling to visualize? Lay down newspaper or masking tape to map out where your furniture will go.

🚶 Step 2: Leave Room to Move

  • General rule: Leave at least 50cm between large furniture pieces for easy movement.
  • Dining tables: Allow 50cm behind chairs so you can pull them out comfortably.
  • Hallways: Keep at least 80cm clear for smooth walking space.
  • TV viewing: Distance from the sofa should be 1.5 to 3 times the diagonal size of your screen (e.g., for a 40” TV, sit 5-7ft away).

🏡 Step 3: Check Ceiling Heights

  • Measure from floor to ceiling and allow at least 20-30cm of clearance above tall furniture like bookcases for a spacious feel.
  • For sloped ceilings, measure to the lowest point to avoid surprises!

🪟 Step 4: Consider Windows & Light

  • Measure from floor to the top of your windows—avoid placing tall furniture that blocks natural light.
  • Placing a desk by a window? Measure the height from the floor to the window ledge to ensure a snug fit.

🚪 Step 5: Will It Fit Through the Door?

  • Measure your doorway width, height, and clearance (including tight hallways or staircases).
  • Compare with the width, height, depth, and diagonal depth of your new furniture.
  • If one of these measurements is smaller than your entrance width, you’re good to go.
